You know the magnificent glide, cut and maneuverable bouyancy of Current Designs' most popular kayak line, the Kestrel series. Now imagine those same properties in a build nearly twice as rigid that only weighs 35 lbs.Now stop imagining and start paddling that dream. Four models in the Kestrel line are now made from a super-light, super-rigid hybrid material just developed by Current Designs' engineers and released new for 2006: the Kestrel 120, the Kestrel 140, the new Kestrel 140 SOT(sit on top) model and the new Kestrel 170 T (tandem). These kayaks have all the famous design advantages of the Kestrel line, but are built from a unique fiberglass/Kevlar/graphite hybrid lay-up that delivers the very lightest kayaks they've ever offered (based on lbs. per foot of length).
For example, the Kestrel 140 in this hybrid material is seventeen full pounds lighter than the comparable rotomolded polyethelene Kestral, providing ease of transport and launch, additional bouyancy and vastly improved rigidity.
Kestrels in this construction are available in two colors only - Dragon Red and Yellow. These might be the lightest kayaks ever made in these sizes.
